Whispers of the Night Watch

Image
When darkness falls and shadows creep, My watch begins, a vigil to keep. I gaze upon the stars, so bright and grand, But one by one, they slip from my hand. The moon, a beacon in the night, I watch her fade, no trace of light. The breeze, it whispers a tender tune, As trees sway, their dance in gloom. The ground, it slumbers, peaceful and deep, While dogs howl, their secrets they keep. I stand alone while others dream, Sleep eludes me, a relentless theme. Is this my fate, a night watch's plight? To wander through darkness, devoid of respite? With a heavy heart, I question my role, A solitary figure, seeking solace for my soul. I'm a guardian of the night, in service I remain, Sacrificing sleep, a solemn vow I sustain. To safeguard the slumber of ordinary souls, In their fearless rest, my purpose gently unfolds.
